Injured amid police’s teargas, journalist Rafiq Bhuiyan dies

Rafiq Bhuiyan passed away on Sunday afternoon. He was injured Saturday in an altercation between BNP members and police officers at Segunbagicha near Dhaka.

M Abdullah of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, the BFUJ leader, confirmed that M Abdullah succumbed Sunday morning to his wounds while being treated at Birdem General Hospital. 

Bhuiyan was traveling to Jatiya Press Club Saturday afternoon from his Madartek home. Due to ongoing violence and tears gas, his rickshaw flipped as he approached Segunbagicha.

Birdem Hospital doctors said that his head was seriously injured and he was bleeding profusely. 

Rafiq started his career as a journalist in Chattogram. He worked for Dainik Samachar. He then moved to Dhaka, where he worked at various newspapers. He also edited several newspapers. He continued his journalism during the extended period he spent in Canada. 

Rafiq Bhuiyan, a former executive of BFUJ was a permanent Jatiya Press Club member and Dhaka Union of Journalists member.

Samorita Hospital has kept his body. His body will be interred after his sons have returned from overseas. 

Rafiq Bhuyan, born in Daganbhuiyan, Feni in 1951, left behind sons, daughter, family members, and many well-wishers.
